Martha Ann McMahan King, 85, a homemaker, died peacefully on Thursday evening, April 24, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. Visitation: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 1921 SW 3rd Street, Grand Prairie, 75051 with funeral services at 12 Noon. Burial: 2:30 p.m. at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas. Martha was born on September 1, 1928, the youngest of 3 children born to the late George Luther McMahan Sr. and the late Clarice Corn McMahan in Dallas, Texas. She would attend schools in Dallas, graduating from Adamson High School. She would meet the late Harold Edward King Sr. They would marry and move to DeSoto, where they would spend the rest of their life. Their home would become a place of happy memories and a place where they would raise 4 sons. The neighborhood and school friends would make the King home a gathering place. Not only was Martha a mother figure for her family, but would serve in a role of matriarch for many in the neighborhood as well. Living in a home of males, she would adapt to that motherly role, spending time time camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with her boys. She was an excellent cook, and enjoyed serving as the family hostess. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother, George McMahan Jr. Survivors: sons, Glenn King and his wife Donna, Ronnie King and his wife Cindy, Harold King Jr and his wife Vickie, Kyle King; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mildred Richter.
