Doris Mae Trok Herold, 84, a native of Winona, Minnesota and long-time resident of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, slipped from her earthy bonds on Friday, December 12, 2014 following a lengthy illness. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 in The Ballroom of The Summit, 2975 Esplanade, Grand Prairie, 75052. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30, prior to the service. A private family burial will follow at Grand Prairie Memorial Gardens. Doris was born on March 11, 1930, the oldest of 5 children and the daughter of the late William Trok and the late Esther Trok. She was raised in Minnesota, assuming the role of matriarch to her family when her mother would fall seriously ill. After her younger siblings aged, Doris would meet the late Forrest Herold in Chicago. They would marry, and while there, she would give birth to their only child, Ricky Lee. Forrest was an employee of American Airlines. When American moved into Dallas Love Field, Forrest was one of their first employees. At that time, he would move the family to Dallas. Upon their retirement, Doris and Herold bought a motor home and toured the country for 4 years. Both described that as some of the best years of their lives. Forrest remained the ultimate mechanic always working on friends and neighbors cars and homes. Doris was the ultimate volunteer. When their son became the Director of Parks and Community Services in Euless, it was time for them to come back to the metroplex and become volunteers again. When Rick became the Director of Parks and Recreation in Grand Prairie, they bought a home in Curtis Wright Village. Many organizations and individuals were benefactors of her generosity. She was an integral part and charter member of two churches, Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Lewisville and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Carrollton. She was also recognized and honored by the Governor of Texas for volunteering more than 25,000 hours at the Denton State School in Denton, Texas. She relished the opportunity to share. It was common to see her acknowledge a family with small children, often giving a dollar bill to each child in the family. Survivors: son, Rick Herold; siblings, Roberta Trok Morrison and her husband Gary, Ron Trok and his wife Lynn, William Trok and his wife Barbara, Michael Trok and his wife Jane. The family request donations be given to the Forrest and Doris Herold Scholarship Fund, University of North Texas, Division of Advancement, Acct.#75900, 1155 Union Circle, Box 311250, Denton, TX 76203.
