The sixth child of Sallie Dea and Henry Hasten Baker, Phillip was born in Hopkins, County, Texas on a night when the snow was, as his mother said, “hub deep”. He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1946. In 1949 he married his school sweetheart Rosemary Morris and moved to Grand Prairie where they started a family. Soon after, he joined two of his brothers, Henry and Bill in running Baker Bros. Cleaners in Irving, TX Later, with his children, he founded A-Z Pawn Shop in Irving, where he made and repaired jewelry. During these years, he took up running, covering many thousands of miles, at Lively Park. He also began his journey as a Freemason, eventually serving as Worshipful Master of Irving Masonic Lodge #1218. In his later years, the mandolin became his passion. His greatest joy was making music with his kids, and the “;fam jams” were a legendary highlight for all. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Ruth, Edith, and Doris; and his brothers Henry and Bill. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary; their children, Cathey, Laurie, Sammy, Danny; grandchildren Aransas, Chas, Bo, Jason, and Jacob; great-grandchildren Phillip, Savannah, and Derby; his youngest brother, Jack; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. If you are able, please join us for a memorial luncheon/reunion to be held in his honor for family and friends between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 28 at the Irving Masonic Lodge, 132 E. 2nd St, Irving TX 75060.
